Perspectives on Termination and Settlements – A panel discussion

Date - 07 August 2018
Venue - Bartier Perry

In this seminar, we explore termination of employment and managing the human impacts of termination of employment.

People often spend more time at work than they do with their families.  Employment typically forms a large part of an employee’s identity.  Employment is how employees provide for their families.  It is a source of social interaction, provides a sense of self-worth, provides a means to contribute to the society and community.

But what happens when the employer and employee are moving in different directions and the decision has to be made to terminate the employee’s employment?  Terminating employment is invariably one of the most difficult things a manager can do.

We will be facilitating a conversation with you on protecting against, managing and effectively settling the legal, reputational, business, workplace and other human risks associated with managing terminations of employment based on real life and recent case examples.

Leading the discussion will be Darren Gardner, Partner in Bartier Perry’s Workplace Law and Culture team.  Darren will draw on his wealth of practical experience assisting private and public sector clients manage the legal and other dimensions of termination of employment and effectively settling cessation of employment disputes.

Joining the panel as our special guest is Robert Migliore, Founder of Actevate.  In 2006 Robert founded Actevate Pty Ltd. Actevate is a vibrant workplace Return to Work Provider focussing on empowering individuals to improve their health outcomes in the workplace.  Actevate is also a company that is involved in building safe, healthy and productive workplaces by engaging in strategic partnerships with brokers, insurers and employers.

Robert is also a Clinical Lecturer in the School of Rehabilitation Counselling, at the University of Sydney.

Rounding out the panel is Nick Leon.  Nick is a Senior Associate in Bartier Perry’s Workplace Law and Culture team. Prior to practicing law, Nick worked in the area of workplace relations and has experience in both private practice and in-house legal teams.

Please feel free to extend this invitation to colleagues where appropriate.
