Panel discussion: Strata Building Bond and Inspections Scheme vs Latent Defects Insurance - what’s changing and what it means for residential development

Date - 25 March 2026
Venue - Bartier Perry

The Strata Building Bond and Inspections Scheme (SBBIS) and Latent Defects Insurance (LDI) are both designed to protect residential strata schemes from the cost of rectifying defective building work in multi-storey developments. With the NSW Government currently considering compulsory LDI as a replacement for the SBBIS, the implications for the property development, construction and project delivery sectors are significant.

Join us for a panel discussion examining the commercial and practical implications of the SBBIS versus LDI, and what a potential regulatory shift could mean for developers, builder-developers, project directors, strata managers, engineers, quantity surveyors and building consultants involved in multi-storey residential projects.

Our panel will explore the commercial, financial and risk considerations from multiple perspectives including development feasibility, defects management, insurance structure, funding implications and regulatory enforcement.

Panel speakers

  • Sarah Bozionelos – Registered Architect, Quantity Surveyor, SBBIS Inspector, Archi-QS

  • Corey Nugent – Chief Executive Officer, SHC Insurance Brokers

  • Renati Barel – Commercial Finance Broker, World Class Finance
