Madeleine specialises in building and construction law and has experience working in a variety of matters including litigation, adjudication and expert determination. 

Acting for contractors and developers, in her practice Madeleine draws upon her background in the regulatory side of building and construction and her knowledge of mandatory Australian technical Standards to offer tailored and pragmatic legal advice to her clients.

Madeleine regularly appears for her clients in State Courts and Tribunals in respect of contractual disputes, building defects, and judicial review.

Career highlights

  • Represented a designer in an adjudication under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payments Act 1999 (NSW) against a main contractor regarding a payment dispute on a statewide significant infrastructure project. Assisted the client to settle on terms beneficial to the client.

  • Successfully represented a main contractor in an expert determination involving complex contractual arguments.

  • Successfully represented a main contractor in an adjudication application involving complex contractual arguments. The respondent was ordered to pay 100% of the payment claim.  

  • Represented a main contractor in NSW Supreme Court representative proceedings regarding a defects dispute on a commercial building. The proceedings also involved a successful application for security for costs and a stay of proceedings.

  • Successfully represented claimants across multiple adjudication applications.

  • Successfully represented multiple clients in various interlocutory applications.
