Shreya Dutt

Shreya is a Senior Associate in Bartier Perry’s dispute resolution and advisory team. She advises and acts for corporate clients, insolvency practitioners, and individuals across complex commercial litigation, intellectual property disputes, insolvency matters, defamation matters, and shareholders and partnership disputes.

Shreya is admitted as an Australian lawyer and is also registered with the Bar Council of India, having been admitted as an Advocate in India. Prior to entering private practice, she worked as a Judge's Associate in the High Court, where she gained valuable insight into judicial decision-making and court processes.

As an Australia-India dual-qualified lawyer, Shreya has a strong understanding of the legal frameworks, business environments, and cultural nuances relevant to clients operating across both jurisdictions. She frequently advises and assists clients on cross-border disputes, regulatory matters, and commercial advisory work involving Australia and India.

Through her practical and commercially grounded approach, Shreya focuses on navigating high-stakes legal disputes with clarity and strategic foresight. She works closely with clients to resolve matters efficiently, balancing thorough legal analysis with a strong emphasis on achieving commercial and business-centered outcomes.

Career highlights

• Acted as the instructing solicitor in Selkirk v Hocking (No 2) [2023] FCA 1085, the first Federal Court decision addressing the statutory 'serious harm' threshold element and acted in the subsequent Full Federal Court appeal, Selkirk v Wyatt [2024] FCAFC 48.

• Acted as the instructing solicitor in the matter of Re Sneakerboy Pty Ltd (Admin Apptd) [2022] VSC 502 which included acting for an Administrator in a large, high stakes administration of a group of companies, which included the sale of main business.

• Acted for a national franchisor in a passing off and trade mark infringement matter which required an urgent injunction. The matter was resolved with an undertaking obtained from the infringing parties and ceasing of the infringing and passing off conduct.

• Acted for a family-owned business that was defending a multi-million dollar Australian Consumer Law and breach of contract claim, and achived monetary relief in a successful cross claim while defending the claim for the business.

• Acted for a Group of companies facing multiple debt demands by its creditors, including successfully defending winding up proceedings commenced against one of the companies in the Group, negotiated debt repayment agreements, and provided further advice on business restructure to minimise risks and avoid breach of director duties.

• Featured in an episode of Women in Law where Shreya talks about navigating high-stakes legal work in a reputed practice.
