Tony is an experienced litigation lawyer with over 30 years' experience in insurance litigation, particularly in respect of work injury damages, public liability, intentional torts and recovery claims.

He has a strong appreciation of the need to contain claims costs by the thorough exploration of settlement opportunities and, where necessary, the ability to prepare matters which are required to be run at hearing in the District Court, the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

Tony’s clients include a number of major insurers, advising on a wide range of issues including indemnity, recoveries and alternative dispute resolution.

I endeavour to determine as soon as possible the likely outcome if a matter is unable to be resolved by the parties on a compromise basis, with a view to obtaining the best and most cost-effective result for my client.

 

Career highlights

  • Conduct of numerous files for defendants in liability claims, including obtaining and reviewing available evidence, liaison with various expert and lay witnesses, issuing cross-claims where relevant, provision of recommendations regarding resolution on a compromise basis, where appropriate, and when necessary preparation of matters for hearing. One matter was run in the District Court, Court of Appeal, and the High Court.

  • Defending intentional tort claims against the NSW Police Force involving work such as collection and review of available evidence, interviewing and other liaison with Police officers of various ranks, attempting alternative dispute resolution and preparation of matters for hearing.

  • Conduct of work injury damages claims, including collation of relevant evidence, provision of settlement recommendations, and preparation for and running matters at hearing in the District Court, where settlement on the basis of a reasonable compromise is unable to be achieved.

  • Advising in relation to recovery claims for NSW workers compensation scheme agents, including cases involving potential medical negligence on the part of treatment providers to injured workers.
