Key hire strengthens Bartier Perry’s financial services offering

One of Australia’s most experienced superannuation and financial services specialists has joined Bartier Perry as the firm expands its service offering.

Lisa-Marie McKechnie brings over 27 years of experience to the firm, including co-leading EY’s financial services law practice and, most recently, serving as a partner at Piper Alderman.

“Lisa-Marie brings unrivalled knowledge of regulation in the complex and ever-changing superannuation sector, along with deep experience in contracts, data protection and privacy,” said Bartier Perry CEO Riana Steyn.

“She stands out for the length and breadth of her client relationships, but also for her strong commitment to mentoring inspiring and motivating the next generation of young women lawyers. Working alongside our corporate team, Lisa-Marie will help deliver on our growth strategy to provide clients with a full-service offering in superannuation and financial services,” said Ms Steyn.

Ms McKechnie said Bartier Perry’s culture was a key drawcard for joining the firm.

“Bartier Perry’s culture aligns with my values and the needs of my client base,” said Ms McKechnie.

“The superannuation sector has always been highly regulated, but scrutiny from regulators is only intensifying. Super funds need to retain and grow their membership while operating within the strict regulatory regime. They require legal solutions that align with both the regime and their own risk appetite and trusted colleagues they can call on to assist them with specific legal issues,” she said.

Along with a long history of contributing to ASFA’s professional development program, Ms McKechnie has designed director training for a number of super fund boards on the key pillars of the regime.

These include the requirements of the Financial Accountability Regime, CPS 230 Operational Resilience and SPS 515 Strategic Planning and Member Outcomes for key clients including Equity Trustees, First Super, Hostplus and Fire and Emergency Services Super.
